This rare silent 8mm footage was filmed in Del Mar, California on September 11, 1966 (one day before “The Monkees” television series premiered on NBC). The band met winners of a radio station contest on the beach in Del Mar, which was renamed ‘Clarksville’ by the city’s mayor for that day’s event. Afterwards, The Monkees traveled by train with the winners back to Los Angeles. They perform in one of the train cars with a set that included “Papa Gene’s Blues.” The audio consists of Mike Nesmith demos for two songs that were eventually recorded by The Monkees, “Don’t Call on Me” and “All the King’s Horses.” The demos were recorded in 1965. VERSION 1 with different audio can be found here: www.youtube.com Please visit my website at www.monkeesconcerts.com.
