Subject: Micky comparison in Entertainment Weekly

Hey everyone~
Entertainment Weekly compares Micky Dolenz*SPELLED CORRECTLY!!!* to Matt
Stone, co-creator of South Park. The sentence reads:

Stone, with his raunchy sneer and exploding moptop, calls up the image of
Micky Dolenz starring in a road-show version of Hair, and, if anything, he’s
even more obnoxious than his partner-his eyes sparkle with delight at how
badly he’s misbehaving.

Although its a small mention…and about his hair…its a mention nonetheless.
Its on page 47 of issue #444 August 7th, 1998. Its on the first page of the
movies section with the review of BASEketball. Good thing my friends like
South Park or I wouldnt have even glanced at it:)

~Hey~
My sis, Andrea, was reading Entertainment Weekly today & was reading the
video review & guess what they reviewed? Rhino’s DVD version of HEAD. The
article is on page 83 of the August 7th issue (with Hollywood’s 25 Greatest
Actors on the cover). It says:

“HEAD The Monkees (1968, Rhino, G, $24.95) The brief moment when the Monkees
were undeniably “with it.” Their movie (masterminded by Bob Rafelson and Jack
Nicholson, soon to deliver Five Easy Pieces) carried an anti-war message,
poked fun at their manufactured selves, and featured cameos from the likes of
Frank Zappa and Sonny Liston. The crucial difference between this trippy
artifact and A Hard Day’s Night? The Beatles had “Can’t Buy Me Love”: the
Monkees had “Porpoise Song”. As one of Rhino’s first DVDs (along with Walking
Tall and In the World Tonight, a making of Paul McCartney’s Flaming Pie), it’s
disappointing, especially since the company’s CDs are thoughtfully packaged.
Though the disc contains a clean print and a clutch of trailers, there’s no
wide-screen option, an inaccurate chapter index, and no audio commentary from
any principal. How busy can Micky Dolenz be? The movie: C The packaging: D+”

Hello all,

As most of the news comes from USA, so we thought it would be nice to share this with you from the UK:

Daydream Believers is the name of the documentary about the 1965 Monkee Auditions.

It was filmed during July 1997 and was due to be shown on Channel 4 in the UK during November 1997. Then it was scheduled for April 1998. But was not shown.

Phillip Conn from the Principal Film company says it will now be shown on Channel 4 on Sunday August 30th as part of the Arthouse series.

The episode features interviews with people who auditioned for the Monkees in 1965, and including DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, Brian McClain (who later went on to the group Love with Arthur Lee) and Del Ramos (who played in the Survivors in 1964 with Mike – and then went on to join the Association)

Although they were not allowed access to the Monkees themselves to hear from them, the programme still sounds interesting.

It looks certain that The Disney Documentary will be shown on Channel 4 on 29 August.

In the magazine, Select, it says that on August 29 they will show Hey Hey We’re The Monkees + the Arthouse programme Daydream Believers (about the 1965 auditions)

However when I spoke with Channel 4 they could not confirm this, saying that their schedule is only two weeks in advance.

So it is best to check the Radio Times magazine nearer to air date.

I have a Nick at Nite calendar that shows a classic TV fact every day.
Today there was one on The Monkees.

“After the successful first season of The Monkees the actors complained to
the press that they werren’t allowed to play thier own musical instruments,
and threatened to leave the series. Luckily, the producers relented, and
the real Monkees’ music was featured in the second year.”

See, even nick at nite knows that The Monkees played thier own instruments.

Conicidentally today is also Charlotte Janelle Dolenz’s 18th. birthday.

I don’t know if this is appropriate for the alert list or not, but I’d
thought I’d pass it on since someone mentioned the American Way magazine.

On the American airline international flights they do radio interviews with
the Teen Idol Tour and Davy mentioned his future projects. He said he is
finishing a novel, a “love story”, that he has been working on for a few
years. He said it’s going to be published next year. He also said he was
helping turn a novel (he didn’t saay which one) into a musical which is
also supposed to be finished next year. He said that he had rewritten his
autobiography “They Made a Monkee out of Me” as well.

He also mentioned the monkees movie, yet again. He had no intentions of
being in the movie, he has other things he would rather do.

Teen Idols go on around 7:30 pm. Tickets are being sold at all Portland

spokesman for KISN radio told us that they had originally expected Music
Millenium to take phone orders for tickets as well—Music Millenium
decided not to take phone orders, which left a lot of fans outside the
Portland area without a way to get tickets to the event. KISN has now
convinced Music Millenium to take phone orders at the following number:

I was killing time in Borders bookstore the other day when I ran across a book in the photography section called Flashing on the Sixties by Lisa Law. The title is pretty self-explanatory. Well, there were a few photos from The Monterey Pop Festival and one of them just happpened to be the cutest picture I think I’ve ever seen of Micky Dolenz. It’s a closeup of him in his Indian headress.

Here is some more news from the UK that we would like to share with you.

The following is from UNCUT magazine, September 1998 issue.

Please note that at the end of the piece it says Sunday 29 August. SUNDAY is actually 30 not 29th – so check for yourself before you watch it.

UNFINISHED MONKEE BUSINESS

Stephen Dalton profiles Daydream Believers, a new documentary tracing the lives of Hollywood wannabes who flunked the audition to join the most famous manufactured pop band on the planet.

It was 33 years ago this month that an ad ran in the Hollywood Reporter demanding “four insane boys aged 17-21” to audition for a new TV series. The show was intended, according to co-creator Bob Rafelson, to “do A hard Days Night on television”. It succeeded in creating a wholly synthetic pop phenomenon, The Monkees, who attained chart success way beyond the hopes of their creators.

But the flipside of this pleasant Valley fairy tale is that 433 people left those auditions with nothing, and they lived with lost opportunity for three decades. But now, an enterprising camera team has tracked down a handful of these Pete Best figures for Daydream Believers, a highly entertaining documentary which finds most of these failed Monkees in surprisingly good spirits.

“It’s not a film about The Monkees,” insists producer Richard Sattin, who’s company, Principal films, made Daydream Believers. “It’s about the flipside of fame in LA. We usually only see a small percentage of the people who exist in that Hollywood media and film environment, but the vast majority of people are not known by the public. Whether they’re DJs, performers, backing singers or simple servicing the stars. Most of LA is working-class”.

It took years of archive research and political negotiation for Sattin and director Ian Macmilan to trace around 100 of the 433 unsuccessful would-be Monkees. Of these, they finally settled on five to feature in the film. Most work on the fringes of showbusiness, as movie stand-ins or small-time singers, and all five seem content. Perhaps the only minor casualty is Bryan Maclean, former guitarist with Arthur Lee’s Love, who jumped off the “runaway train” of drug addiction, found God and now makes “Celtic worship music”. So were there any candidates that Ian and Richard considered too tragic to include?

“Well, there were the twin sons of a famous Hollywood actor who now lives somewhere out in Palm Springs and, even in their mid-fifties, still believe that one day they are going to be the next Beatles,” sighs Richard. “They still play sixties pop songs in bars in the middle of the Mojave Desert. They are living in the shadow of their very famous father and for them life is a total tragedy – they’ve been in and out of hospitals. Hollywood Babylon at its weirdest”.

But such damaged souls, says Richard, would have put an unrealistically negative slant on the film. “It would have been unfair and a bit trite on our part, as Brits looking across to Hollywood, if we’d deliberately chosen people whose lives took a turn for the worse – for other reasons, not because they didn’t become Monkees. It would be easy to judge these people by our standards, but the whole point of the film was to try and judge Hollywood by the standards of the bulk of people who actually live there. That’s the subtle twist in the film.”

In fact some of the failed Monkees became runaway success stories in their own right. Rodney Bingenheimer, for example, who was later crowned “Mayor of Sunset Strip” by Led Zeppelin and David Bowie, made a record with Blondie and still hosts his own prestigious show on alternative rock station K-ROQ. In many ways, his legend has outlasted that of the manufactured band he once tried to join.

“Absolutely,” nods Richard.

“When we first went to film Rodney, he was opening a shopping mall with the Verve! We shot 20 minutes of The Verve and Rodney sitting on a podium-playing guitar together in the middle of the mall.

“Priceless stuff. Then we went backstage with them and you could see these guys, in the nicest possible way, fawning over Rodney.”

Daydream Believers includes ultra-rare footage of Davy Jones and Mike Nesmith auditioning for the show which made them superstars, and explodes several myths about The Monkees – most notoriously that Charles Manson tried out for the band.

The truth is that Micky Dolenz, in a radio interview, joked about the fact that Charles Manson was there and that hyped up the whole thing,” explains Richard.

“We found no evidence supporting that. But a guy called Bobby Beausoleil, who was actually one of the Manson murderers, was rumoured to have attended. There is supporting evidence for that, but nobody would actually confirm it.”

Well, the advert did ask for “four insane boys”…

Daydream Believers is broadcast alongside a more conventional Monkees documentary, Hey! Hey! We’re The Monkees!, as part of C4’s Arthouse series on Sunday August 29.

in “Old Things” a novella by Jill Barnett which is part of a 3 novella book
called That Summer Place, the main character (Catherine) mentions that their
summer house looks like it was decorated by James Bond and the Monkees. Her
11 year old daughter says “Was that a rock group in the olden days?”
Catherine sings the opening line from the theme and dances while the two
daughters look at her like she’s deranged. (I can relate to this story. )

CLEVELAND FREE TIMES [Ohio’s Largest News, Arts & Entertainment Weekly]
Vol 6, Issue 47 ~ August 12-18, 1998
www.freetimes.com

Article: “Debating the Greatest Films Ever Made” by Brett Sokol [pp 16-19]
Article Subsection entitled: “Some Favorites & Why”

“Head” (Bob Rafelson, 1968)

The only movie starring the Monkees is no mere rock and roll novelty act for
drug-crazed teens, but rather the most daringly experimental film ever
unleashed by a major studio. A circular/polygonal non-narrative “story” that
at first seems to be a hopeless jumble, then at second (third, fourth, fifth)
glance reveals a high degree of organization, begging the questions: what is
plot? What is linear? And quite apart from all that, it’s as funny as all get
out. No, really, I could watch this movie forever, probably will if I’m not
careful. Jim Henson once did a Head-like short called Timepiece. He got on
Oscar; Head only gets an asterisk as “that Monkee movie.”

Mitigating factor: I’ve only watched this movie while sober.
~ Charles Cassady Jr, Free Times

In today’s (16 August 1998) issue of my local newspaper,
_The Gainesville Sun_ it’s actually on the front of section D
the Monkees are
included in a front-page article about reader’s memories of live concets. In
the beginning, there is a sentence about Liberace, saying “..He was not the
Beatles or the Monkees, but he was an all showman, mezmerizing the crowd..”

(reprinted without permission)

THE MONKEES,
JACKSONVILLE, 1967
Monica Leadon Cooper of Gainesville traveled to the Jacksonville Coliseum
with four of her girlfriends to see the Monkees. The concert was big fun as
they joined a throng of 12-year-old girls screaming wildly through the strains
of “Last Train to Clarksville” and other Monkees hits.
“The whole event lived up to our expectations except for the opening act,”
Cooper wrote. “Who was this guy? He was so loud! And he kept throwing his
guitar after he writhed all over the floor playing with his teeth and behind
his back. Jeez, this was awful, so we all went out to get popcorn.”
When she got back home, Cooper recounted the story about this “irritating
music” to her brothers, who were awestruck.
“Monica,” they gasped, “that was Jimi Hendrix!”

The article aslo mentions The Rolling Stones and the Yardbirds, Jimi Hendrix,
Michael Jackson, John Philip Sousa, Kenny Rogers & the First Edition,
Louisville Philharmonic Orchestra, The Osmond Brothers, Lilith Fair, The
Beatles, Sister Hazel, The Who, The Supremes, and Elvis.

This was seen in the free magazine with Saturdays Independent newspaper 15th August 1998:

On 29 August it’s Monkees Night on Channel 4. The celebration kicks off with Hey, Hey, we’re The Monkees which focuses on the creation of what was perhaps the world’s first pre-packaged boy band. At the auditions, none of the hopefuls was required to sing or play an instrument and the band was selected by marketing executives. They still went on to be the most successful US band of the time, even outselling the Beatles. After that, Daydream Believers revisits some of the 433 unsuccessful applicants to the ad in the LA paper inviting people to audition for the band. One is now a stand in actor (principally for Richard Gere), another is a pool-table salesman and yet another is a swimming-pool cleaner who once “nearly” released a record. The programme also examines the rumour that one of the wannabe Monkees was a certain Charles Manson

There was a comparison between The Monkees and Spice Girls in the Orange
County Times on August 14. (Front page of the Accent) The article is all
about the Spice Girls. Heres the couple paragraphs.

Do not compare them [Spice Girls] to the Monkees. OK, so they answered an
ad (“R.U. 18-23, streetwise, outgoing, ambitious and dedicated?”) And yes,
someone packaed them and sold them before they barely had time to share creme
rinse. And no, they did not play a single instrument on their first album.
But hey, there are different. They have wonderbras. And now they arre

Another example of monkees dis-respect:

From: Got2havlov@aol.com

in out local paper the Flint Jurnal there was a section called :Book
Chronicales Stupid Rock Star Trick, Escapades.” well along with many others
it said this:
” Stephen Still tried out to be one of the Monkees. He didn’t get the job.
I’ll bet that lost opportunity keeps him up nights” there are some real funny
ones in there too.

My grandma’s visiting, and has a thing for watching TNN (the nashville network). So last night on their talk show, Prime Time Country, there was a guest host. He was interviewing Hal Ketchum. Hal started making jokes about becoming “a session shaker player–I’ll be the best shaker player in the world!” (Now, here’s how it went, as far as I can remember)
“No, Davy Jones is already the world’s best shaker player.”
Hal: “Yeah, but he’s British, and he’s not here, so he can move on”.
Stupid Guest Host: “The Monkees are dead! “
Hal: “No, they’re not dead, they’re just slightly wounded”
S.G.H.: “If you’ve seen any of the Monkees lately… you’ll know they’re dead”.
Then they went to commercial.
Voila, You never know, there might be reruns and if you enjoy hearing people insult them, you’ll get to see it.

informed about an art exhibit at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

entries and art work by Keith Haring when he was a child….one of the
journal entries showed a color and b/w photo of Davy Jones with a heart
drawn around the photos and a capation that read “I love Davy Jones”.
Below the heart was Keith Haring’s Monkees Fan Club membership card!

The Keith Haring exhibit runs until September 8th at the San Francisco

TODAY’S CHOICE

Hey Hey We’re the Monkees
9.00pm C4

The Americans took a look at the success of the Beatles’ a Hard Days Night and decided that hey, we can do that too. So an ad went out in August 1965 for four zany boys – folk and roll musicians-singers for acting roles. Mike, Mickey, Davy and Peter got the parts and the Monkees were born. From the TV series (which won an Emmy in 1967) to the box-office disaster of the Bob Rafelson/jack Nicholson film Head, the history of the Monkees is told by the band and the people who made them in this evening of Monkeemania.

They had auditioned for roles in a rock group in a TV show but ended up actually becoming a rock band. It’s like Leonard Nimoy becoming a Vulcan, say Mickey Dolenz. But what of those 433 people who didn’t make it. Daydream Believers (11.05pm) traces five guys who weren’t so lucky.

At 6.25pm the episode to be screened will be Royal Flush

Claire Catford and Bill Overton Live from LA at 6.40am

A short clip of Daydream Believer is played

With us now is Micky Dolenz. (Micky – the guy who did not sing that song)
But you were drumming on it – absolutely, yes
Drummer with the Monkees

No, no, actor – who played the part of the drummer on the Monkees

Did you get the chance to drum – Yes always

The thing was auditions for a TV show originally before the band

Micky Dolenz – it wasn’t a band. It was never a band. Today it’s not a band

Even when you reformed

Not from my point of view. It’s a cast of a television show. It’s more like the cast of a musical getting back together. If you had the original cast from Cats, say Eileen Page got back together to do a revived Cats. That’s the way I have always approached it. The Monkees was always a television show about a band and I played the drummer, so when I get back on stage as one of the Monkees I get back on stage as if Yul Brynor got back to do the King & I.

Back into role. – Yes exactly

Can you drum?

Yes absolutely – quite well. You had to do a number of things to get into the auditions. You had to sing, play an instrument, you had to improvise you had to act. To do a number of things. Make a good cup of coffee. It was cast like a musical. That’s the way you would cast a West End musical.

Do you have great memories of the TV series?

I have none. No I loved it. I’m told I had a good time. But it was 30 years ago

What were you doing 30 years ago and do you remember?

We’ve been saying you’re back here. But in fact it’s been a few years since you decided to come back from Britain

I went over to Britain in 1975 and got real lucky and started directing over there Well for BBC and for LWT – Metal Micky. Which has always been my day job since. And to this day it’s what I do. And I think what I do best is directing and produce television shows.

A divorce sort of drove me out of the country a few years ago and a number of reasons I decided to come back here. I still have family in Britain and in fact my 3 girls who live in Cambridge are here in LA right now

What was it like re-establishing yourself here?

It was much more difficult than re-establishing my self in Britain in 1975. I think in Britain we don’t tend to pigeon hole people quite as badly.

Here they really do tend to pigeonhole you.

It’s a tough town. But there is a lot at stake.

There’s a lot at stake, in all fairness the budgets are up in millions in Britain the budgets are in the hundreds of thousands. SO it makes a big difference and taking risks so. And a lot of people over here think I am a drummer. Like you did.

And so it’s been a re-education process. But I understand and I chip away at the inertia that was created by that wonderful show. It was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, the Monkees

You don’t mind talking about the Monkees

I don’t mind talking about it…I don’t like to talk about it at great length. To me it’s a little boring. It was a long long time ago. I have gone on to many other things.

Tell us about that now.

Directing. That’s my day job. I’m working on shows here and in the UK. A couple of shows there that I’m talking about doing. I’d love to go back there and work and do some directing

Here I’m doing a show called Boy Meets World which also shows on Disney in the UK, shows here on ABC, it’s a sit com, and developing shows and writing and producing and, my day job is a boring old TV director.

You sound a little world-weary

It’s supposed to be a breakfast show. Its so funny hearing the traffic reports

The M25 is clogged up again. Bloody the M25. There gonna have to widen it to 400 lanes.

No it’ll become like LA. You can’t get around in he rush hour. I was listening to a traffic jam this evening and it moves. In the UK it doesn’t move

The M25 is a huge parking lot – but they’re widening it I’ve heard.

I was on the road a last year with the group touring the UK and it was great fun and I love going back and playing and singing it’s a lot of fun. I wouldn’t want to have to do it. And have to pound way at it year after year and go through the ups and downs. Touch wood I never had to do that.

Stories in the UK at the moment are about a similar band in its makeup, The Spice Girls one left two are now pregnant and they are down to 2. Should they replace them?

Pregnant from each other?

Should they knock it on the head and say it was great while it lasted. Like the Monkees, you said that there have been several reunions but you knew when to let it go.

Well in our case we had no choice. When the show went off the air, the cast, you know, that was the end of it. It was last Star Trek, after they filmed the last episode of Star Trek I don’t think Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner ran around chasing each other saying “Beam me up Scotty” “Ok Leonard, oh beam me up”.

It just did not happen. The Monkees was not a group. The Monkees was very unique. I don’t know how the Spice Girls was put together, I don’t know the story behind that. The Monkees was very unique. Nothing has happened like it since. The close’s thing to happen was Spinal Tap where fantasy imitating life-imitating art. The line between fantasy and reality is very thin there. And if you ask some other members of the cast of the Monkees they might give you very different stories about their take on it.

I’m giving you mine and the fact we went out on the road and actually played concerts to me is the equivalent of Leonard Nimoy actually becoming a Volcan.

Do you still all get on? Are you in communication with the others?

Yes we talk; but it’s like we didn’t grow up together. We didn’t live in each other’s houses. It was a professional relationship for the most part.

In you’re directing world, what are the things you absolutely love to get your hands on?

One of the Spice Girls. Anyone, push, updown, loaded spice, cardamom, cinnamon. I wonder if they get all that stuff “Hey you cinnamon spice”. “Monkee want a banana” – everyone thinks that’s so original.
TV or Movies – no I don’t have a preference, directing is a craft and I will direct anything as long as it’s good. I would rather direct a good a good sitcom than a bad movie. I’m interested in great script great actors. Then you can shoot it bon super 8 and its gonna works.

What are your favourite sit-coms? Like now on American TV. Because they come to us an year late

You mean new stuff that is coming out? Well do you have Just Shoot Me – I think that’s quite good, George Segal, That Seventies Show, South park, There’s quite a few new ones coming out this year that nobodys seen yet. SO I can’t tell you. But you don’t get them that far back. What about Everybody Loves Raymond – That’s real good.

The future guide to sit-coms from Micky Dolenz. He knows what he’s talking about.

Thanks for coming in.

I don’t know how many of you watched it, but in the new South Park this
week, they played “I’m a Believer”! I couldn’t believe it! It was during
the scene where the kids got that prostitute to help them get back at
their parents. If anybody missed it, it’ll be on again Saturday at 10
pm eastern time on Comedy Central. Just thought you might like to know,
in case you missed it.

Yet more reviews of Arthouse seen in UK papers/magazines.

The following was seen in the Evening Standards HOT TICKETS magazine 27
August 1998

HEY, HEY, WE’RE THE MONKEES
9pm Channel 4

Not quite sure as to the reasons behind Channel 4’s deluge of
Monkees-related documentaries (well two), but they’re quite entertaining.
This one is your basic, run-of-the-mill history of, with the aged Monkees
looking back to the wild and wacky days of falling over on beaches and
miming to Boyce and Hart songs.

ARTHOUSE
11.05pm Channel 4

Of the 500 men who auditioned for the Monkees, four were chosen. This is an
hilarious portrait of five that weren’t. While all are desperate to point
out that they were fortunate not to have been chosen, the sound of straws
being grasped at is almost deafening. Rodney is a timid DJ who appears to
be at the forefront of the campaign for more dead air. The highlight of his
life is visiting the International House of Pancakes. Bryan Maclean feels
he failed the audition because he was far too hip and has subsequently taken
to writing ‘spooky Christian music’ after a drugs overdose. Never mind the
‘Just Say No’ campaign, one look at this man and you’ll never go near an
aspirin again. More than anything else, this film shows the pathetic nature
of failure in Hollywood, and that the only people attracted to La-La Land in
the first place appear to have had their brains sucked out of their ears.

At 9pm UK time The Disney Documentary was shown – well 50 minutes of it.

They missed out bits including That Was Then, Justus and where Davy saiys
that Mike looks like he came out of the mountains. Otherwise it was a good
show that a lot of UK fans would not have seen.

The Arthouse programme has just finished at midnight here in the UK.

Here is a brief run down of what the programme was about:

It starts with the music of Daydream Believer, followed by Rodney
Bingenheimer saying he was into the pop scene and ran away from home to go
to Hollywood.

Eddie Foy – the casting agent said he didn’t know what he was doing.

Steve Blauners saw the idea for the Monkees and said go with it.

Eric De Torto from Boston didn’t go to many auditions. At the Monkees one
he sang “Havanagila”

Richard Laruso was signed to MGM Records in N.Y.. At the auditions he sang
a few songs and went back several times. He also tried out for Robin in
Batman and almost got the part.

Clip of Davys screen test shown

Del Ramas who is a pool table salesman now. Joined the New Society and
worked with Mike for two and a half years.

A clip of Mikes screen test

Del Ramas knew Mike got the part because he had a new car and had bought his
wife a chinchilla mini skirt.

I’m A Believer played

Brian Maclean who is a musician said that he was told to go to the audition
because the wage was $750 a week.

The idea was to cast acters who could play.

Eddie Foy had no recollection of Charles Manson auditioning, nor Stephen
Stills.

Steve Blauner – Now Steve Stills won’t talk about the Monkees but he was
there kissin arse with the rest of them.

A clip of Love singing “My Little Red Book”

Brian Maclean – It was difficult being famous, He did not know how he would
have lived through it if had became a Monkee.

Clip of Monkees 1967 UK visit

Rodney Bingenheimer – Davy Jones gave me my first legit job as a stand on
The Prince and The Pauper. After that he promoted Linda Ronstandt, Rod
Stewart and David Bowie. Then opened Rodneys English Disco on Sunset
Strip – it was the place to be.

Eric De Torso – In his heart he wanted to be pop singer. He recorded a
song that everyone told him would be a hit and it never came out. He was
tired of singing at night. So at a party one day he got chatting to a pool
cleaner and started his own business.

Richard Laruso – He was playing 3 shows a night, went through a lot of
changes incl. mid life crisis. he got tired of touring now sells paper to
banks, shops, markets etc.

Brian Maclean – was arrested, used drugs and was even invited to Sharon
Tates house the night Charles Manson killed her.

Clip of Billy Graham

Then Brian prayed and converted to Christianity

Rodney – in 1985 he played a lot of Monkees stuff on the radio and had them
in too talk on air. he wanted a GTO – made a record with Blondie and now owns
a GTO. He is shy – like Andy Warhol. he treats everyone equal. he would
speak to David Bowie the same way he would speak to a homeless person.

Del Ramas loved playing pool and now works for Best Billiards selling tables
and cues etc. He is also in the group The Association with his brother.
(They had a hit in 60’s with Windy) the groups been around so long because
the music is top dollar.

Richard Laruso is a stand in for Richard Gere.

Eric de Torto plays at private functions.

Richard Laruso was going for an audition as a Mafia Don in the film Kill
’em – he got it.

Brian Maclean is writing worship music. Its a sort of Celtic, spacey, no
guitar (spooky) Christian music.

Eddie Foy – Out of the 400 odd that auditioned around 20 are still in the
business.

Rodney – I owe it all to Davy Jones. He invented me.

Thats it for now. Hope this is of use to you

I was just watching VH1’s Behind the Music, 1968, and they played a short
snippet of “Daydream Believer” They didn’t say anything about the Monkees,
but at least they were recognized in the song. I don’t know if they do
tape delay on the west coast, or if anyone else has a chance to catch it,
but I thought I would at least try to pass this on. Sorry if it’s late.
