In case you didn’t get my message in the Monkees Yahoo Group, I wanted to
let you know that on the Paul McCartney concert special, ‘Back in the
U.S.’, which airs on ABC tomorrow night, November 27 at 9pm EST, there’s a
scene where Paul visits a wildlife preserve and visits some intelligent
apes. On his way, he and his band goof around, and Paul sings a snatch of
the Monkees Theme. The scene is also included in the DVD/VHS version of the
film. It’s a brief but fun moment and I think Monkee fans will get a kick
out of it: Beatle sings Monkees!

Take care,

Hello!

On page 22 of the December 2, 2002 issue of People
Magazine (Sexiest Man Alive issue) there is a picture
of Michael Nesmith along with the caption:
This Old Hat
Practical, modish and oh, so versatile, the
snug-fitting knit cap, which hugs the craniums of so
many of today’s recording artists, can be traced to
our primate ancestry-the Monkees’ Michael Nesmith.

Hi Brad,
just a note that there is a picture of Mike Nesmith in this week’s People
Magazine (the one with “the sexiest man alive” on the cover). On p. 22 there
is a small article called “this old hat” which reads “Practical, modish and
oh, so versatile, the snug-fitting knit cap, which hugs the craniums of so
many of today’s recording artists, can be traced to our primate ancestry–the
Monkees’ Mike Nesmith”. In addition to a black and white vintage photo of
Mike, there are photos of Justin Timberlake, P. Diddy, Eminem, and Enrique
Iglesias in knit caps.

Watch for repeats of a VH-1 show called Bubblegum Babylon – it
included, among other things, new (though brief) interview segments
with both Peter and Davy. Interspersed throughout the show are
comments about the group, even a brief discussion of how “Head” was
designed to destroy the M’s bubblegum image. At another point, you get
to see a new shot of Peter with one of his bobble-head dolls,
commenting that the only way he would possibly know that the doll was
supposed to be him was because his name was on it.

This 2-hour show also includes lots of information about bubblegum
artists ranging from the Strangeloves in 1965 to Katie Cassidy (David
C’s daughter) in 2002. Overall, I thought it was quite well done.

The December 2002 issue of the Dish (satellite TV) Entertainment Magazine
had an article “Merry Listmas”, with various lists of movies based on
different themes. One list was “No Roadies Required” of movies featuring
rock stars. “Head” was in the list, along with “Hard Day’s Night”,
“Tommy”, “Purple Rain”, “KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park”, “Rock ‘N’
Roll High School”, “8 Mile”, “Sgt. Pepper’s…Band”, “Can’t Stop the
Music”, “Hard to Hold” and “every Elvis film ever made…”

The Los Angeles Daily News (Nov. 22) entertainment section ran a nice photo
of Micky with the caption, “Micky Dolenz participates in the “Liverpool
Days” celebration and exhibit, Dec. 7-8 at the Pasadena Conference Center,
300 E. Green St., Pasadena. (714) 999-1599.”

Hey Brad!

There have been numerous rumors on the net about Peter rejoining the
Monkees this summer for the 2003 tour. I just talked with Peter this
afternoon in Framingham at the Super Mega Show and he said positivly NOT!

I just thought I’d pass this on and asked Peter if it was ok if I did.
