The June 18th issue of Billboard magazine, which was released June 10, is proof positive that the Monkees have a solid success with the “Good Times!” album. It placed No. 6 on the week’s Billboard Album Sales chart, which put them in the company of such contemporary names as Dierks Bentley, Beyoncé, Blake Shelton, Fifth Harmony and Drake who were just in front of them.

As announced earlier in the week, “Good Times!” debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart at #14. That was a better showing this week than Thrice (“To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere”) at No. 15, Prince (“The Very Best of Prince”) at No. 16, G-Eazy (“When It’s Dark Outside”) at No. 17 and the soundtrack for the musical “Hamilton” at No. 18. And languishing a short distance underneath those were Justin Bieber at No. 20, and Kanye West at No. 21. Billboard reported “Good Times!” sold 23,000 album units in the week ending June 2 with 22,000 in what the magazine called “pure album sales.” It said was the group’s best showing by Nielsen Music since it began tracking data in 1991.

“I’d be happy if we just had made the Top 40,” Micky Dolenz said in an earlier statement to Monkees Examiner. “The reception is unexpected and exciting. I knew the album was good and the reaction makes it even more rewarding.” Another sign of respect being shown to the group is that the Monkees also placed at No. 44 on this week’s Billboard Artist 100.
