MICKY DOLENZ
Micky is working seriously on his directing career in 1999. He recently
directed an episode of the ABC-TV sitcom “Boy Meets World”, which aired
April 9. Watch for repeats: episode title was “Bee True”.
With Davy’s departure from the 1999 edition of the Teen Idols tour, Micky
was asked to take his place on the tour, and he accepted the invitation.
His dates are as follows:
Date Venue
—- —–
Sep. 4 Six Flags Over Georgia, Austell, GA, 770-739-3400

Micky’s artwork is on display now at the new Image Makers Art Gallery of
Stars, 61 The Circle, East Hampton, Long Island, New York.

PETER TORK
Peter and James Lee Stanley will host a cruise for their fans on Halloween
weekend, Oct. 29-Nov. 1, 1999. For further info, call Evelina at Valley
Travel at 1-800-348-7865, or contact Stephen Chandler (chanman23@aol.com) at
Beachwood Recordings. Reservations deadline is August 15.

MICHAEL NESMITH
Nez recently completed a bicoastal book tour to promote his new novel, The
Long Sandy Hair of Neftoon Zamora (1998, St. Martin’s Press). He’s working
on his second novel, and he has been trying to drum up interest in getting
his script, “Fried Pies”, turned into a feature film.
Michael Nesmith’s long-running legal trouble with PBS was finally concluded
in July when his attorneys and PBS’s attorneys reached a financial
settlement of an undisclosed amount. Since both parties were reportedly
pleased with the settlement, it can be assumed that the final figure was
substantially less than the $47 million a jury awarded Nez in the same case
in February.

In George Michael’s autobiography called Bare, co-written by Tony Parsons,
it mentions the Monkees.
It talks about Wham setting out to prepare new ground with their new music,
and the help received from MTV in doing so.

“There had been what amounted to promos in the past. As far back as the
1960’s, The Beatles has capered around in a ploughed field to promote
“Strawberry Fields forever”, while excerpts from a film and TV series had
advertised products as diverse as Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues”
and any number of Monkees hits. ” Page 73.

I had posted about an article on the Monkees being in the August 14th issue
of Canadian TV Guide; I just got a message from Christie asking me to
transcribe and send it to her so I figured I’d transcribe and send it to
EVERYONE. It’s on page 20, the REWIND section.

Last train to syndication
by Christoper Loudon

The year was 1965, Beatle-mania had reached a fevered pitch, and the
strategy for ratings-challenged NBC was clear: Try to create a TV series
that captured the frenetic appeal of the Fab Four. And so, The Monkees was
born, with the network launching a search that fall for four fresh-faced
actors to play the mythical rock group. Nearly 500 hopefuls heeded the
call; but the roles went to a onetime British jockey (Davy Jones), a former
child star (Micky Dolenz) and two musicians (Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith).

Throughout the summer of ’66, the foursome studied the art of improv, and
when The Monkees debuted in September, it caused a sensation. The ersatz
group, whose early songs were produced with the aid of an army of studio
musicians, sold more than eight million records in eight months, and their
zaniness proved so fresh that it bested such popular competitors as
Bewitched, The Lucy Show and Hogan’s Heroes at the 1966 Emmy Awards. But
The Monkees’ playfulness proved mercurial. Pitted against Gunsmoke, the
sitcom couldn’t sustain a sizable audience, and on Aug. 19, 1968, The
Monkees officiallyy departed the prime-time circus.

FAST FACTS:
1. At the tail-end of the debut season of The Monkees, Mike Nesmith made
headlines when he complained at a press conference that, “We’re being passed
off as something we’re not.”
2. Nesmith later became independently wealthy when he inherited an enormous
fortune from his mother, a former secretary who invented the office product
Liquid Paper.
3. In 1987, a heavily hyped talent hunt was staged to cast The New Monkees.
The syndicated series lasted just 13 episodes.

Mtv is getting ready for the 1999 music video awards
they were showing dance segments from performances through out the past
award shows and they showed Micky, Davy, and Peter doing the classic
Monkee’s walk on the stage, it was only for maybe 10 seconds or less but

Reviews by Alan Levine, Special for The Arizona Republic, NEXT WEEK, Fina Ed., The Arizona Republic, 27 Aug 1999, pp. D13

INVISIBLE MOM II ***

The characters are cartoonish, the acting over the top, and both the
dialogue and plot are strictly corn on the cob, but this New Horizons
production is just right for rug rats on up to 8-year-olds.

The orphanage has been having trouble placing 12-year-old Eddie Brown
(Justin Berfield) into a foster home, so it turns to the Griffin family as a
last resort, for it has a history of taking in lost causes.

Laura Griffin (Dee Wallace Stone) easily persuades her inventor husband and
14-year-old son that Eddie would make a suitable addition to the family. And
it isn’t long before Eddie is unpacking his suitcase at the Griffin household.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, billionaire Randolph St. John is taking
the big leap toward the white light.

Standing over him, rubbing their hands together, is his greedy niece Olivia
(Mary Woronov) and his avaricious nephew Bernard (Micky Dolenz), both of whom
already are counting the ways to waste the wealth.

But the moment the billionaire bites the big one, the family attorney
announces that a long-lost grandson has been located, and he, rather than the
rapacious relatives, will gain access to the assets.

Naturally, the lucky lad turns out to be Eddie, and just as he’s settled
into his new digs, his covetous cousins come along and drag him back to the
family estate, where a convenient accident awaits him.

It’s up to the Griffins to rescue Eddie. Luckily, Laura still has bouts of
invisibility, thanks to a potion that she accidentally imbibed in the original
film. The phenomenon occurs only when she becomes excited, and this latest
family crisis certainly is cause enough for her to lose control of her
emotions and her opacity. (Rated PG)

In a message dated 99-09-12 01:35:55 EDT, you write:

Here’s the times!
Saturday 9/26/99 at 4:00-5:00 pm
Monday 9/28/99 at 9:00-midnight
Sunday 10/4/99 at 9:00-11:00 am
Mon-Fri starting 9/28/99 at 1:00 pm

Also, in the year 2000 of May, vh1 is supposed to put them on air
again!!!!!!!!!! >>

The above information is NOT correct!!! First of all, 9-26 is a Sunday, not
Saturday, 9-28 is Tuesday, and 10-4 is a Monday. Second, the VH1 website
doesn’t show the Monkees airing at all anytime in the future.

I believe the above dates are either left over from last year or simply
wishful thinking by the author.

As for VH1 airing in 2000, the website had no information to confirm this.
Again, urban legend or wishful thinking.

Thanks,
Leisa

I went to the doctors with my mother today, and whilst
waiting, guess what I found!

September 10th, 1999 issue of Entertainment Weekly!
on page 20 they have this little thing about burning
calories while singing:

HEAR THE BURN

LOOKING TO SHED some pounds? Well, you can try the
Zone, Tae-Bo, or…karaoke? Sure enough, the
Tokyo-based Dalichikosho company has designed a system
that lets you count how many calories you burn while
singing. A computer analyzes your voice as you perform
after your song, it spits out the number of calories
you’ve expended.

So, could a night of crooning turn you into Calista
Flockhart? Not likely. Says Lisa Tertamella, a
registered dietitian and exercise physiologist at
Yale–New Haven Hospital:”Given that it takes
[burning] 3,500 calories to lose a pound, you’d have
to sing more than a day to lose weight. Needless to
say, all that beer you’ve got to down before you can
get up on stage probably won’t help your waistline
either.–Rachel X. Weissman

Songs in the Key of Lite
Some tunes and the average number of calories you’d
burn (which Dalichikosho calculated by factoring in
the length of song, tempo, and vocal volume)

Artist Song Calories
USA for Africa “We are the world” 20.7
Led Zeppelin “Stairway to Heaven” 17.8
Whitney Houston “Greatest Love of All” 15.5
Queen “Bohemian Rhapsody” 14.4
Diana Ross “If We Hold On Together” 13.8
Sting “Englishman in New York” 12.8
Mariah Carey “Emotions” 12.7
Frank Sinatra “My Way” 12.7
Simon & Garfunkel “The Sounds of Silence” 11.7
The Carpenters “Yesterday Once More” 10.7
Eric Clapton “I Shot the Sheriff” 10.7
The Eagles “Hotel California” 10.5
The Monkees “Daydream Believer” 10.5
Ben E. King “Stand By Me” 6.6

Screen Gems network is shown an various stations around the country, check loacl listings.

From: “peter p. dobolina*”

Hey hey!

Great news, guys:

The Monkees will be shown later this season on the Screen Gems Network!! I heard it with my own ears! Now I don’t have any specific dates because I can’t find a Screen Gems website, but here’s the whole scoop as I caught it on TV tonite.:

Here in Indiana, I was watching Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie on CBS (latenight, around 12:30am). This time of night they call it the “Screen Gems Network”. During a commercial break, they were having a quiz to see if we could recognize a certain actor, early in his career. He turned out to be Danny Bonaduce (Danny of the Partridge Family), and the announcer said stay tuned for the Partridge Family [show] “as they join the Monkees on the Screen Gems Network later this season”!!! Search local listings for this station/network/latenight programming!

The guys are comin’ back!

My new husband & I just returned from our honeymoon in Niagara Falls, Canada.

One night while we were there, we ate dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. They have
a walkway leading up to the front doors that consists of stars containing the
names of different musical groups. There was a star for the Monkees, but the
group’s name was spelled incorrectly as: The Monkeys.

I took a picture of it to send to the corporate HQ of the Hard Rock, but have
to have it developed first.

I was just playing the “Turbo TV Trivia” at N@N’s arcade Game and there are

http://www.nick-at-nite.com/arcade/index.tin
check it out! Most of the other questions are tricky!
