Hi, Mimi Rogers is on Rosie right now, talking about idols. She told Rosie
she had to admit she had a huge crush on a celebrity when she was young. Davy
Jones! She said (Mimi Rogers) that she wrote him a fan letter that was like a
3 page thesis, and sent a heart locket w/ it. Then she told Rosie that she
never received a reply from Davy. Rosie told her she had a surprise for her,
and gave her a Davy Jones finger puppet from her own collection. Mimi went on
to say that as she got older, she was worried about growing too tall for Davy.
The show was on here in Chicago from 3-4pm CST. Hope some of you can catch
it. Monkees forever, Linda

Good news for David fans..It won’t cost a small fortune to get into the Epcott
shows…

As you have learned, Davy Jones will be performing at Epcot on May 8, 9 &
10 as part of our “Flower Power” event. Although specific performance
times and locations are not yet available, please know that his appearances
will be considered part of the park’s regular entertainment offerings on
those days. For this reason, only a regular theme park admission ticket
will be required to see any of his performances. For specific appearance
information, we ask that you pick up a guidemap/show schedule upon arrival
in the park, or inquire at any Guest Relations location.

Peace and love,
Kimberly

There is no reason I can see why the following trade-in program could not be used for Monkees CD collections. Have at them!

RHINO LAUNCHES INSANE CD EXCHANGE PROGRAM
IN MOMENT OF MARKETING DELIRIUM!

Consumers Get the Hits and Rhino Takes the Hit in Massive
Campaign to Heighten Brand Awareness and Label Quality

LOS ANGELES – Rhino Records, the music industry’s leading pop culture
label, finally goes off the deep end with the INSANE CD EXCHANGE PROGRAM,
an unprecedented marketing campaign that will allow consumers to exchange
one of their lesser-quality various artist, best-of, or reissue CDs – from
any label or mail order house – for a high quality Rhino disc of their
choice, absolutely free.

This program runs through December 31, 1998, and will be limited to one CD
exchange per household. (We may be crazy, but we’re not stupid!) A
toll-free phone number (1-888-615-3885) has been set up to provide all
rules and details, as well as enabling consumers to receive a full Rhino
catalog in the mail.

The INSANE CD EXCHANGE PROGRAM will apply to any reissue collection (best
of, various artist compilation, or album reissue). In addition to the
toll-free number, information will also be available on Rhino’s web-site at
. It is imperative that consumers call the number or”>http://www.rhino.com>. It is imperative that consumers call the number or
visit the web-site for the rules before returning product to Rhino.

“When our creative marketing whiz David Gorman came up with this stroke of
insanity,” says Garson Foos, Rhino’s Vice President of Marketing, “I told
him this could put him up there with business greats like Crazy Eddie, Cal
Worthington, and The King of Beepers. We are so convinced that to know us
is at least to like us, that we’re willing to spend some serious money
making the introduction. Send us your disappointing, lacking-in-luxury
reissue CDs, and we’ll put a smile on your face with a lovable Rhino disc
of your choice.”

The favorite label of record collectors worldwide, Rhino is internationally
recognized as the first to treat reissues with R-E-S-P-E-C-T. The
foundation of Rhino’s success is its creative approach, attention to
detail, and dedication to the music. The label’s critically acclaimed
cross-licensed releases feature original artists, original hit songs, the
best sound quality possible, extensive liner notes, rare photos, and
packaging with personality.

“We were in the second day of a two-day meeting, trying to come up with
ways to let the public know how much love and passion we put into
everything we release,” says David Gorman, Rhino’s Director of Creative
Marketing, Advertising, and Merchandising and 1998 Grammy winner for best
box set packaging for Beg, Scream, & Shout: the Big O’ Box Of ’60s Soul.
“We wanted to be known as ‘the Cadillac of record labels.’ I was tired,
hungry, and a little delerious when this idea slipped out of my mouth.
Fortunately, everyone else in the room was in the same state, so they
thought it was a good one.”

What will Rhino do with all the unwanted, inferior CDs? Well, the label
plans to put them to good use. As part of its environmentally conscious
nature, five years ago Rhino created flooring in the lobby of its West Los
Angeles headquarters made from recycled CDs, cassettes, LPs, and 8-tracks.
The label now plans to redecorate its A&R department by removing the
existing carpeting and replacing it with similar flooring made from the
pulverized, recycled compilations and reissues it receives as part of the
INSANE CD EXCHANGE PROGRAM. This should serve as a constant reminder to
the A&R staff of the type of product that will not be tolerated.

Rhino will promote the program through national print advertising, product
inserts, and on its web-site. Numerous radio stations will announce The
INSANE CD EXCHANGE PROGRAM during radio promotions for Rhino releases.

–Monkee Alert–
We were reading todays USA Today & in the Life Weekend
section on page 4E at the bottom they have a question where people e-mail
answers. Here’s the question for people to answer for next week:

“The Monkees TV show went off the air 30 years ago and the band split after
Peter Tork quit in 1968. Yet the legend endured and records sold steadily,
spiking during a reunion tour two years ago. An anthology is due on Rhino
April 21. Are the Monkees a legit musical entity or a long-running joke?”

They say for people to e-mail them with answers at:

weekend@usa.com

Include your name & daytime phone number

It also says for more reader responses go to:

http://www.usa.com/life/backtalk.htm

We figured this was the best way to get a bunch of people e-
mailing…so…START E-MAILING!!!

Thanks:)

Rhino’s budget label, Flashback, has just issued “Daydream Believer And

Daydream Believer
D.W. Washburn
Tapioca Tundra
Words
Pleasant Valley Sunday
Valleri
It’s Nice to Be With You
Good Clean Fun
Oh My My
You Can’t Tie a Mustang Down

This CD contains some rarities, the most obvious being the previously
unreleased “You Can’t Tie a Mustang Down,” which has an overdubbed harmony
vocal by Davy that’s absent from the bootlegged versions that I’ve heard.
Additionally, this CD has the mono 45 mixes of “Daydream Believer,” “D.W.
Washburn,” and “It’s Nice to Be With You,” all of which have never appeared
on CD before in mono (to the best of my knowledge).
