‘Listen To The Bands’, 7a Records brand new release of covers of Monkees songs performed by different bands and artists is a real treat for Monkees fans. Producers Iain Lee and Glen Gretlund put out a call for fans to send in their versions of Monkees songs, and out of about 50 high quality covers, 25 were chosen for this collection.

The songs have all been lovingly performed by the individual artists and their respect for the material really shows. Many familiar names are featured on the CD including Monkee producer Chip Douglas with Deep End performing ‘The Door Into Summer’, the Wayne Avers Group covering ‘For Pete’s Sake’, Gary Owen of The Blue Meanies with his rendition of ‘The Girl I Knew Somewhere’, The Characters with ‘Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)’, and Scott Erickson singing a live version of Peter Tork’s ‘Lady’s Baby’.

Besides familiar Monkees songs, rarities are also featured like ‘If I Ever Get To Saginaw Again’ sung by Scott Parker and ‘The Crippled Lion’ performed by The Roundups featuring Joe Alterio. And on this collection is perhaps THE BEST VERSION of ‘The Day We Fall In Love’ hysterically rendered by the Dredge/Hibbett Conunundrum.

Almost all the Monkees albums and singles are represented including songs from ‘Good Times’. The CD package is beautifully designed with images of the Monkees’ Pad with Mr. Schneider very prominent on the back cover. One hundred percent of the profits from this CD goes to the Davy Jones Equine Memorial Foundation (DJEMF), so not only will Monkees fans get a CD of great music, but they’ll be contributing to a worthy cause. The CD is a limited edition and is almost sold out. A download edition is also available on iTunes and Amazon.

‘Listen To The Band’ is a wonderful homage to the Monkees by talented fans with a deep respect for their music. Get the CD while it’s available and support DJEMF.
