***Dolenz In “Aida” / Nez Newz***
Happy new year to Monkees fans worldwide! To start off 2003, Micky
Dolenz has announced exciting plans that will take him across the
country for half the year: “I have been offered and have accepted a
wonderful role in the Elton John & Tim Rice musical ‘AIDA’. The
character is ‘Zoser’ and it is an incredible part—I sing two of the
best songs in the show and I am the ‘bad guy’. I will be on tour with
the National Company for six months, starting in Fort Myers, Florida,
on February 25th, and then they have guaranteed me the role on
Broadway starting in January of 2004!” (Announcement from Maggie
McManus) Also, just a few days ago, I talked to a Videoranch
representative who gave me the latest scoop on what Nez has been
doing to keep busy these past few months. They said that his upcoming
album, “Rays” is coming along fine and that he’s also “juggling a few
other projects” at the same time. So far, from what they know, the
album should be comprised of about 13 tracks and features a lot of
other great musicians like Luis Conte on percussion, Gregg Bissonette
on drums, Chester Thompson on the B3, and a lot Nez’s signature
guitar work. In addition to “Rays,” Nez is spending a lot of his time
writing his second novel, American Gene, which should be done in
the “next couple of months.” When asked about the storyline for the
book, all they would say was that it’s supposed to take place on the
Texas Gulf Coast.

***New Solo Tour Dates / Monkees On TV***
Davy Jones is continuing to fill up his 2003 schedule with solo
performances. The latest addition is: 10/4/03 Tulsa, OK Tulsa State
Fair. Due to Micky Dolenz’s new role in “Aida,” his April concert in
Clarksville, TN has been cancelled, but he has added a new concert
date before he starts “Aida:” 2/7/03 Onamia, MN Grand Casino Mille
Lacs. The 1989 movie, “Tapeheads” featuring a Mike Nesmith cameo,
will air on FLIXe on Jan. 11 at 3am EST. “Bubblegum Babylon” will re-
run on VH1 on Jan. 12 at 10pm EST.

Brad,

I don’t know if anyone’s emailed the list about this, but I wanted to
tell
everyone that there is a snippet of Peter introducing the Buffalo
Springfield at Monterey Pop Festival on the Monterey Festival Boxed
Set
DVD. It’s on disc three, “the Outtake Performances” and Peter seems
very
with it and sweet (and of course, he’s having a cute hair day!).
It’s
only a few secs, but I was very surprised and happy to see it. The
boxed
set is great and the view of Micky at the end of the Ravi Shankar
performance and now Peter on the outtakes makes it a have a neat
little
Monkees connection.

In the December 31, 2002 issue of The National Enquirer the guys are
mentioned in the column entitled The Scoop in the regular feature
entitled Movie
Insider which is on page 40. In the paragraph the guys fame is
briefly
discussed and it concludes by discussing briefly that new singers and
actors are being auditioned for a new movie and a new version of the
(absolute, all time world’s best, in my opinion!) group. In my
opinion,
David, Michael, Peter & Micky are # 1 always!
Thank you,
Nez4Ever1230
